I’m Lisa Kaplan Friedman, humor writer and author, contributing editor and inveterate optimist. My work appears in The New York Times, Smithsonian, Annapolis Home and other regional magazines, and online for venues specializing in health and medicine. I also publish in trade publications and journals. My goal every day is to write well. And maybe take the sunfish out for a spin on the West River, if the wind is right.

I’ve written three books, including Nothing to Lose, Cruise to Retribution and Capital Baby. My new book, Addicted, follows my sister's downward trajectory into this disease and is, according to my agent, under consideration, which is code for "not published."

I love to talk to writers about writing, to teach creative writing to kids and adults, and to help others find their writing minds. I'm eager to connect with writers around the Bay and to learn about their lives and aspirations.

I graduated from the George Washington University (a long time ago). My first job was on Capitol Hill where I quickly got a citation for riding in the "Senator's Only" elevator (I told you, it was a long time ago!). I still hold the record for Number of Hours Being Lost Inside the House Office Buildings. I have a Master's in Writing from the Johns Hopkins University where I was a frequent Visiting Lecturer.

I was born in New York which means I am tenacious and stubborn and hard driving , traits every published writer needs. However, I am most completely myself on the water, with my dog, among the crab boats and winter sailors.

Write to me.
