Maryland scientist Peter Vogt's latest book, Divine Gust of Wind: Great Trees and Their Afterlives, is  out for 2024 and readers will enjoy a tale of artistry and adventure when a stately tree in the lands in his Chesapeake Bay yard in a coastal storm. The tulip poplar (misnamed, proclaims Vogt) would one-day be the carved-out conveyance for Vogt to paddle in costume on the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay waterways.
